S30-1 Hercules

Hercules in early days

Original Name:

Hercules The Big Softy

Built: April ~1969    WPO: 5016    Reg no.

Boat History

The first Spearfish hull moulded by Tylers. It was rejected by Fairey Marine as being too heavy. It was returned to Tylers.

The hull was deemed "missing in action" by the FOC for many years. And it was only in 2016, that the new owner of Hercules was scraping paint and uncovered the Tyler's ID plate. This revealed Hercules to be the missing Hull No. 1

With an "interesting" superstructure and surface drives she was certainly different if a trifle overweight.

The new owner plans to rebuild Hercules as a 'woodentop' Spearfish with traditional shaft drives and hopefully lose some of the excess weight in the process.

We would like to hear from any previous owners of Hercules.

As to the name? Well, Hercules the Big Softy was named for a Wrestling Grizzly Bear. More information may be found Here and here

As to a new name for Spearfish No. 1? - Hercules.
